Dictionary Project 2001
Since 2000 SAWG has fundraised to make its Dictionary Project possible. A SAWG end of year - dictionary prize for the best all round third form or Year 9 girl student is presented to selected secondary and junior high schools. The target schools up to the present have been mainly rural based and last year dictionary prizes were presented in Savaii. It is the aim of SAWG that all schools of Samoa with third form/year nine girls will eventually all be recipients of this prize.
Leatuolevao Ruby Vaa and Saofa'iga Toleafoa
Presentation Dictionary for Itu Asau No. 1 Secondary School, Savaii, by SAWG Executive member Leatuolevao Ruby Vaa, and accepted by Saofa'iga Toleafoa.
The response from the various schools has been very positive. One head teacher said - "Although the top student of our third form got many other prizes she said she really wanted to have the SAWG prize because she said that her aim WAS to finish secondary school and go on to becoming a woman graduate of Samoa." This sums up the purpose of the SAWG dictionary prize. When prizes are awarded with a SAWG certificate - the message is there. "Congratulations on being the best all round Year nine student. Work hard and become a Woman Graduate of Samoa."
