The Research Institute for Asia
and the Pacific (RIAP) Emerging Voices Project (in conjuction with Business
Asia Magazine) encourages thinking and debate about the future of the Asia
Pacific region in the broad fields of politics and economics and the
implications for society. Entrants between the ages of 18-25 years are
encouraged to write in a journalistic style, in no more than 2000 words, about
the generational changes taking place in the region and how these will
influence future decision-makers. Some key themes to explore could include:
- New Crisis Managers: Managing the
Regions Generational Change
- Asias Emerging Power Elites: Inside
Asias Politics and Business Networks
- Defining Asian Identity: Crisis of Identity
or Identity in Crisis?: Pop Culture, Cyberspace and Nationalism.
THE PROJECT IS OPEN TO 18-25 YEAR OLD CITIZENS
OF ANY APEC MEMBER COUNTRY. ENTRIES CLOSE ON 15 DECEMBER 2002. ALL ESSAYS MUST

TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1) The Research Institute for
Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) Emerging Voices Project is open for 18-25 year old
citizens of any Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economy. 2)
Entries for the project will close on 15 December 2002. All entries must
contain a cover sheet with the entrants full name, age, address details,
word length of essay, 100 word summary of the essay, contact details (including
e-mail address), and short biography of the entrant (including any relevant
academic or work experience). 3) Entries must be no more than 2000 wds
in length. 4) Finalists will be shortlisted by RIAP, with a judging
panel to decide on TWO winning entries. Winners will be announced in the
February 2003 edition of Business Asia. The winning entries will be published
in Business Asia Magazine in 2003 and any relevant RIAP publications. Winning
entries may also be published in other media at the discretion of First
Charlton Communications. 5) The two winners will receive a one-week
trip to their choice of either China or South Korea. Trips must be taken by 30
June 2003. During their trip, the winners will talk with various business and
government dignitaries at meetings organised by RIAP and First Charlton
Communications. Specific meeting schedules will be organised in conjuction with
the winners. Winners are responsible for organising their passports, travel
insurance, health insurance and any relevant visas. Airfares, suitable
accommodation and per diem expenses for seven days will be provided for the two
winners. 6) The winners must produce two 1000 word articles each
resulting from their interviews and experiences in their chosen destination.
Specific topics will be decided in conjuction with Business Asia editorial
staff and RIAP. The articles will be published in Business Asia Magazine and
any relevant RIAP publications. Articles may also be published in other media
at the discretion of First Charlton Communications. Articles must be produced
by 30 August. 7) First Charlton Communications and RIAP may ask for
proof of age, citizenship and passport details from entrants. 8)
Winners are chosen at the discretion RIAP and First Charlton Communications. No
correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful entrants. 9)
Winners will be notified by February 2003. |
